ABOUT THE ORSDF The modern Oregon State Defense Force (ORSDF) was established in 1961 (see history) to provide Oregon with a trained "National Guard Reserve Force." With the Governor as the Commander-in-Chief, the ORSDF serves within the Military Department. The ORSDF, as an augmentation for the Oregon National Guard, is administered by The Adjutant General (TAG) and is a force multiplier in the area of the State's Emergency Operations. Organization and Function of the ORSDF can be found at: ORNGR 10-2 |

Prior military service from any component is a prerequisite for all positions. Look for a unit in your area and contact them directly or email CW5 Kim Johns if there is not specific contact information for a unit in your area. |

AUTHORIZATION The ORSDF is authorized by (32 U.S. Code Sec. 109). This law grants the States and U.S. Territories the right to maintain "other troops." In addition the ORSDF is specifically authorized by Oregon law (ORS) 399.035) as part of the organized militia entitled "Oregon State Defense Force." In most cases state defense forces are comprised of unpaid volunteers, unless activated, who are subject to the authority of their respective state governors and adjutants general. |
